Up in the tree tops of Baguio’s Camp John Hay! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, It’s…. Superzipliners? That’s right! Recently, at the end of 2010, a new attraction was added to the famous Camp John Hay called Tree Top Adventure. Currently, there are five different outdoor adventures being offered including four different tree based rides and a hiking trail to go trekking. You can choose to go pay for each activity individually or you can choose to purchase one of several package deals which combine several of the different activities.

When you first arrive, one of the staff will sit your group down and go through a brief orientation, explaining each of the different activities and discussing the option of choosing one of the different package deals. Once you’ve chosen your packages and paid, it’s time to get fitted with a harness. The staff will assist you in putting on the harness and getting the correct helmet to protect your head.

First up is the Canopy Ride. The Canopy Ride lets you enjoy the magnificent views from the tree tops where you are seated in a chair attached to a zipline. You travel from canopy to canopy set up along several of the different tree tops. The Canopy Ride is definitely the more scenic way to get to each of the other different rides.

Although we opted out of the Tree Drop Adventure, we can tell you a little bit about it. The Tree Drop Adventure is a ride with face down drop of about 60ft. from a canopy which gives you ultimate feeling of falling without actually hitting the ground. You can opt for one of three different positions to go down – sitting, head first, or fully horizontal like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible.

The Silver Surfer Ride is a two person ride where each person stands facing each other on a platform connected to a zipline. You get sent 70 feet diagonally down the zipline then back up several times to give you the feeling of surfing between the trees.

The most exhilarating ride has to be the Superman Ride. The Superman Ride is a more traditional zipline activity where you are set up face down across two bars and ziplined horizontally for over 200 yards between the trees to simulate the feeling of flying like Superman. At 150 feet above the ground, this zipline is the highest and gives you the best view of the mountainside.

As mentioned before, the trekking adventure includes a hike on a trail around the local grounds of Camp John Hay. Make sure you’re wearing some comfortable shoes because the trail is over 500 yards of semi-rough terrain to  navigate. Camp John Hay has a history of being used as an R&R location for American Troops and this trail provides the same wonderful views and relaxing environment they enjoyed in the past. There are different scheduled treks each day that last up to about an hour.

The Tree Top Adventure is sure to bring in more tourism to the already popular Camp John Hay by giving people even more options for local activities in the Summer Capital of the Philippines. It’s always a good idea to pack a light jacket or sweater because the weather up in Baguio can be a lot cooler than the lower altitude regions. Once you’ve enjoyed the beautiful views and you’ve gone through all the exciting rides, don’t forget to drop a few pesos in the wishing well on your way out!
