“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” ~ Edward Abbey
If you’ve spent any time in the Philippines, you’ve probably heard that one of the best places to go to escape the heat is in Baguio, the City of Pines. While you have a few choices of how to get there, we recommend taking the most scenic of the routes by going up Kennon Road, aka Zig Zag road.
Starting in Rosario, La Union, Kennon Road takes you up, down, through, and around a steep mountain climb where you can enjoy breathtaking views of mountain tops, lush vegetation, and beautiful expanses of pines. You’ll pass by rivers and even a few waterfalls. You may even find yourself asking your driver to make a few pit stops so you can capture “just one more picture”.
About halfway up, you’ll even be greeted by a large lion’s head! It’s a great opportunity to take a break, stretch you legs, and reflect on what you’ve just seen.
Before you know it, your journey will have come to an end as the mountain city of Baguio comes into view. But, lucky for you, you’ll be able to see it all over again on your way back home. Enjoy!
